Covenants are extremely important in our lives as Christians.
The definition of covenant is agreement; creation of a contract.
There are good and evil covenants that affects all mankind. but as Christians, it is important to understand covenants due to the implications and affects that it can have on your life and the life of your family.
Covenants result in and are the foundation of generational curses and blessings. If you have evil covenants in your family lineage your life will be affected by them.
One way to know if you have an evil covenant active in your life, is if you have a sin in your life that you struggle to overcome. No matter how hard you try, you can't seem to stop. Your mother and/or father and one or both of your grandparents struggle or struggled with this same sin.
Sickness that "runs in the family" is another indicator of an evil covenant operating in your life. You could have healthy eating habits, exercise regularly and make sincere efforts to be as healthy as possible and still find out that you have cancer, diabetes, or heart problems. This simply means that the covenant is active and evil spirits are attacking you because they have a right to due to the covenant.
As a Christian it is your responsibility to cancel these evil covenants using the word of God and prayer.
Lamentations 5:7
Our fathers sinned, and are no more; and we bear their iniquities.
We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you.
For if you return to the Lord, your brothers and your children will find compassion with their captors and return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.”
1 Corinthians 10:18-22
Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
“But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live. Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?
1 Thessalonians 5:9-11
For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out
Hebrews 8:13
KJVIn that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Colossians 2:14-15
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross. And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Ephesians 1:7
In him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.
